Bengaluru-based Orxa Energies has recently unveiled its inaugural electric two-wheeler, the Orxa Mantis, entering the market at a competitive starting price of Rs 3.60 lakh. Positioned as a direct competitor to the base variant of the Ultraviolette F77, priced at Rs 3.80 lakh, the Orxa Mantis pledges an invigorating riding experience with an IDC certified range of 221 km.
True to its namesake, the Orxa Mantis exhibits qualities reminiscent of an apex predator. Its design is marked by an aggressive front fascia, sharp fairing, sculpted fuel tank enclosure, split seat design, and an elevated tail section. The e-bike offers dual-tone color options – Urban Black and Jungle Grey – with contrasting graphics and decals for an eye-catching aesthetic.
The Mantis features a 5-inch full-digital TFT dashboard running on Orxa’s Linux-based operating system, supporting Bluetooth connectivity. This enables users to pair their smartphones using the Mantis app, providing access to phone notifications, ride analytics, and navigation features.
Setting a new standard in the Indian electric two-wheeler market, the Orxa Mantis is equipped with an 8.9 kWh battery pack powering a liquid-cooled BLDC motor. This marks a significant milestone as the first electric two-wheeler in the country to incorporate a liquid-cooled setup, contributing to a compact motor profile weighing only 11.5 kg. The motor delivers 20.5 kW (27.5 hp) of maximum power and 93 Nm of peak torque, achieving a top speed of 135 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds.
In terms of range, the Orxa Mantis surpasses its competitors with a commendable 221 km, offering an eco-friendly commuting solution. The electric bike features a belt final drive, Orxa’s proprietary ride-by-wire throttle control, regenerative braking, and side stand sensors. With a ground clearance of 180 mm and a weight of 182 kg, the Mantis maintains a balanced profile.
Charging options include a standard 1.3 kW charger included in the price, with the option to purchase a 3.3 kW Blitz charger. Both chargers are versatile, serving as portable units or fixed wall-mounted fixtures. Orxa will also provide accessory options such as side panniers (30 L) and a top box (45 L).
For early enthusiasts, Orxa is offering a special pre-booking amount of just Rs 10,000 for the first 1,000 customers, with the amount set to increase to Rs 25,000. The booking amount is fully refundable, and deliveries are expected to commence around April 2024.
