In a significant development, Pepper Motion, a leading German electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to establish the world’s largest electric bus and truck manufacturing unit in Punganur, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. The project, involving an investment of Rs 4,640 crore, has been granted 800 acres by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Chittoor district collector S Shanmohan, accompanied by a delegation from Pepper Motion led by CEO Andreas Hager, recently visited the designated site in Punganur to formally announce this groundbreaking venture. Pepper Motion CEO Andreas Hager provided insights into the project’s timeline, indicating that construction is scheduled to commence in March 2024. The manufacturing plan will be executed in phases, with the goal of producing 1,000 electric buses and trucks by 2027. A key focus of the initiative is the generation of employment opportunities for the local educated youth.
This ambitious project marks a significant stride in bolstering India’s position in the electric vehicle manufacturing landscape and aligns with global efforts to transition toward sustainable transportation solutions.
