Polestar the first EV maker to incorporate StoreDot’s fast-charging batteries

In a groundbreaking move, Polestar, the Swedish electric vehicle (EV) maker, is set to become the pioneer in incorporating StoreDot’s ultra-fast charging battery cells into its vehicles. This strategic collaboration aims to address the prevalent “charging anxiety” by enabling EV owners to recharge in a matter of minutes, transforming the landscape of electric vehicle adoption.

Backed by Volvo and Geely, Polestar is already among the distinguished strategic partners of StoreDot, an Israeli startup specializing in extreme fast-charging technology. This partnership signifies a crucial step towards revolutionizing EV charging capabilities. The companies plan to integrate StoreDot’s fast-charging technology into Polestar vehicles, with a prototype expected to be showcased next year. The ambitious goal is to have Polestar cars equipped with these cutting-edge batteries on the road by 2027.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, expressed the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing that it will provide EV owners with the ability to recharge within minutes. StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf highlighted the shift from range anxiety to charging anxiety in the electric vehicle sector, identifying charging speed as a primary barrier to adoption.

StoreDot’s fast-charging batteries, which boast the capability to reach almost full charge in just 10 minutes, aim to alleviate these concerns. Unlike traditional graphite-based batteries, StoreDot’s silicon-based batteries demonstrate resilience to degradation caused by fast charging. This innovative approach positions StoreDot as a trailblazer in the EV charging technology landscape.

While the collaboration is in its early stages, both companies are committed to fully integrating the systems into production cars. The anticipation is high, with expectations that fast-charging capabilities will be a game-changer for electric vehicle users.

As Polestar and StoreDot work towards this transformative goal, the electric vehicle industry is poised for a significant leap forward. Stay tuned for further updates as these advancements unfold, reshaping the future of electric mobility.
