In a strategic move to fortify its production capabilities, Rivian, the California-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has welcomed Carlo Materazzo as Vice President of Logistics. Materazzo, boasting over two decades of automotive experience, previously served as VP of Manufacturing at Stellantis North America, where he held various key roles in operations. His extensive background includes executive positions at Fiat Chrysler (FCA), contributing significantly to world-class manufacturing and overseeing operations. Rivian’s Chief Operations Officer, Frank Klein, emphasized Materazzo’s unparalleled expertise in automotive manufacturing, highlighting his pivotal role in enhancing the Illinois factory and establishing the upcoming facility in Georgia.

This hiring decision aligns with Rivian’s ongoing efforts to scale EV production, coming shortly after the appointment of Arnhelm Mittelbach, a former Mercedes-Benz executive, as the first plant manager for the company’s Georgia facility. Mittelbach, with over two decades of experience at Mercedes, previously served as a plant manager in East London and South Africa, as well as the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Vans in Charleston, SC. Rivian’s recent acquisition of 1,800 acres of land in Georgia, where it plans to construct a cutting-edge EV facility, signals the company’s commitment to expanding its production capabilities with a significant investment of $5 billion. As Rivian gears up for construction, Materazzo’s role is poised to be instrumental in driving efficiency and excellence across the company’s manufacturing operations.
