The Audi e-tron, once envisioned as a flagship contender in the Volkswagen Group’s post-Dieselgate electric initiative, encountered its fair share of challenges – from production issues and delays to software hiccups. Despite being a familiar sight at fast-charging stations with satisfied early adopters, by the time Audi perfected its first all-electric SUV, formidable competition had already taken the stage.
To the relief of quattro enthusiasts, Audi refused to let the groundbreaking e-tron fade into the background akin to the Jaguar I-Pace. Enter the 2024 model year, marking a significant rebranding of the entire e-tron SUV lineup, now residing under the well-known Q8 umbrella. This transformation introduces the Audi Q8 e-tron and the more potent SQ8 e-tron, complete with their sleeker Sportback variants.
This shift extends beyond a mere name change. Virtually every aspect of these vehicles has undergone an upgrade – from aesthetics and technological features to performance, charging capabilities, and electric range. While it’s true that there are areas where it may lag behind the competition, the revamped e-tron SUV stands as a testament to Audi’s commitment. It may not be an entirely new model, but the improved Q8 e-tron is undeniably more formidable and, importantly, a joy to drive.
