Volkswagen has responded to consumer feedback by unveiling upgrades to its popular electric models, the ID.4 and ID.5. While the changes may seem subtle, they address key concerns raised by users. The most notable upgrade is the introduction of a new-generation infotainment suite featuring a larger 12.9-inch screen with an improved, intuitive menu structure. Volkswagen has also made practical enhancements, including relocating the driving selector to the steering column, illuminating sliders for cabin temperature control, and integrating an advanced APP550 drive unit for increased power and efficiency.

Technological Advancements: The revamped infotainment system is a highlight, offering a more user-friendly experience with a larger screen and intuitive controls. The relocation of the driving selector to the steering column enhances ergonomics, aligning with the modern design ethos. Volkswagen’s commitment to technology is further emphasized with an enhanced augmented reality head-up display, a new voice assistant, and an upgraded 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. These improvements cater to the growing demand for advanced in-car technologies that enhance the overall driving experience.

Extended Range and Performance Boost: Volkswagen has not only focused on technology but has also taken steps to enhance the electric driving experience. The integration of the new APP550 drive unit, already featured in the ID.7, results in a significant power increase, generating an impressive 401lb ft of torque. The GTX versions of both models receive a power boost of about 40bhp, translating to a total power output of 335bhp. This power upgrade is accompanied by an extended range, with the ID.4 gaining 10.5 miles for a total of 337 miles and the ID.5 adding 11.8 miles for a total of 339 miles. Additionally, improvements in thermal management enable faster charging, with all-wheel-drive variants reaching 175kW DC, promising 110 miles in less than 10 minutes.
