In 2022, Mahindra unveiled its ambitious plans for the electric mobility sector, introducing a lineup of forthcoming all-electric SUVs under the XUV.e and BE sub-brands. These electric SUVs were confirmed to hit the market in the coming years, and significant progress has been made in their development. To celebrate World EV Day this year, Mahindra offered a sneak peek at three of these electric SUVs: XUV.e8, XUV.e9, and BE.05, in a video showcasing them being put through their paces at the company’s testing facility in Chennai.
In the video shared on Mahindra’s official social media channels, all three electric SUVs are seen driving in fully camouflaged forms at Mahindra’s testing grounds in Chennai. The video also briefly displays the SUVs reaching speeds of up to 200 km/h on the instrument console, hinting at their claimed top speed. Furthermore, the video showcases the handling capabilities of these large all-electric SUVs as they navigate the Figure 8 maneuver on the test track.
Expected Arrival Timeline:
Mahindra XUV.e8: The first of the trio, the XUV.e8, is anticipated to make its debut in the Indian market by late 2024. Essentially an all-electric version of the XUV700, the XUV.e8 features a significantly updated front profile while retaining the side and rear designs of the XUV700.
Mahindra XUV.e9: The XUV.e9, the second SUV in the lineup, is expected to be an SUV-coupe variant of the XUV.e8. As shown in the video, it shares its front design with the XUV.e8 but features a distinctive rear profile with a sloping roofline towards the back. It is projected to be available in showrooms by April 2025.
Mahindra BE.05: The BE.05 is the third SUV in the lineup and is expected to be the most futuristic among the trio. Mahindra has previously showcased it in concept form, suggesting that this new SUV will feature a completely new design language and forward-looking exterior, interior, and powertrain options. The BE.05 is slated for launch towards the end of 2025.
These three electric vehicles will expand Mahindra’s electric vehicle portfolio, which currently includes the Mahindra XUV400 as its sole all-electric offering. Pricing for these new electric SUVs is expected to fall in the range of Rs 24-30 lakhs when they are launched in India.
